Using internet to save on car insurance.

Using the internet to shop for auto insurance has exploded over the past few years. More than 70 million auto insurance rate quotes have been given online in the past 2 years. But until recently people have been reluctant to purchase policies online. That is beginning to change.

In the first 2 months of 2007 the number of quotes has increased 29% and the number of actual policies is up over 45% compared with 2006. The reason for this shift is that people are becoming more comfortable with the ease and convenience of conducting financial transactions online.

This is a positive trend and one that insurance companies are encouraging. Most insurers now offer their products online and many offer special rates for online shoppers.

What this means for consumers is easier comparison shopping and ultimately lower rates.

Many AAA rated companies will give quotes online and it is advised to deal with insurers that are familiar to consumers to avoid possible scams. Sites from AAA companies include aigdirect.com, allstate.com, esurance.com, geico.com, nationwide.com, progressive.com and statefarm.com.
